I have had a similar experience this year wit...Yay! I have had a similar experience this year with reluctant/resistant readers (8th grade, mostly boys). I've read aloud to them, I've helped them find books they like. Last week we stopped and listed all the books we've read this year. Several of my boys where shocked to discover they had read 17 books (including assigned books and books I've read to them) and that they had enjoyed most of them. They will talk about the books we're reading during their free time. I attribute much of this to helping them choose books they like and helping them experience the joy of a reading community.
